Who Is Linus Torvalds
Linus Torvalds is the founder and chief architect of the Linux operating
system. In 1991, as a young student from the University of
Helsinki, he decided that he wanted to write a new operating system
that would be more powerful than MSDOS, and freely distributable.
Linus sent out mail over the net to enlist people in
creating such an operating system, and in a short (less than three years)
timeframe went from nothing to a distributed opertating system.
Since that time Linux has grown in the computer community to have:
- its own magazine
- local user groups
- many CD-ROM distributions
